Marlene Sai has behind her the heritage and traditions of a musical island family. Of Hawaiian-Chinese extraction, Marlene attended the Kamehameha School for Girls and was a member of their famous chorus. Soon after her graduation, she began singing professionally at a Windward Oahu club. Her uncle, Andy Cummings, the noted island composer and musician, had helped her to train her voice and to interpret and project the meanings of his Hawaiian songs. Marlene's strong, rich voice is her own. Her personal style is simply to let that warm voice pour out, and carry each song's moving message straight from her heart to yours. This performance is a collection of songs which are considered to be old favorites. Hawaiian culture is not just being preserved, it is living and growing and very healthy indeed. Because you might say, in Hawaii, culture can be fun for everyone. Listen to Marlene and you'll hear what that means. True to her heritage, Marlene Sai's voice captures the soul of Hawaii in sound.
